One of the Alzheimer Network's volunteers was
selected to receive the annual Valley Legacy
Award as Outstanding Advocate for Seniors. At
a luncheon at the Holiday Inn Metroplex, Dorothy
Barto was chosen for her dedication of over twenty
years. Dorothy began working for the Alzheimer
cause in 1981 when her mother's illness was
diagnosed. She was actively involved in creating
the Easter Seal Adult Day Program and facilitated
the first Alzheimer Family Support Group in the
valley. She has presented at many Alzheimer
workshops and continues as a volunteer facilitator
of Alzheimer Network support groups. She is employed
at Help Hotline Crisis Center, Inc. where she serves as
senior services specialist. She and her husband Ron
have two sons, Steve and Jerry.
